Summertime vacation
By emoore | June 30, 2009

This will be a busy weekend for travel in Texas with the 4th of July holiday weekend. As I went to Austin this past weekend, it was nice to see out of state license plates on cars travelling I-35. I hope that those people were visiting the Lone Star State for tourism. With the economy, some may not take big vacations. Anyone taking vacations this summer? If so, are you travelling a short distance or vacationing far away?

She’s probably best known by some as being one of the three ‘angels’ from the 1970’s show “Charlie’s Angels”. I remember watching that show. Fawcett died today after a battle with cancer at the age of 62.

It will be two weeks this Saturday that the well known restaurant, Big Pines Lodge, on Caddo Lake burned. So many of you were touched by this fire like my husband and I were. It’s a tradition with him to go there for his birthday. And so many of you thought of us and shared your photos with us. We thank you. Here is the story of the Big Pines fire through the eyes of East Texans.

World’s tallest horse in East Texas
By emoore | June 5, 2009
Everything is bigger in Texas, we’ve all heard that saying. That may go for the horses as well. Radar is currently the world’s tallest horse as listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. He’s 19 hands and 3 1/2 inches, which in our height would translate to 6′7 1/2. Radar lives at the Priefert Ranch in Mt. Pleasant, along with the previous record holder for tallest horse, Goliath.

Career Day at Karnack
By emoore | June 3, 2009
I had the wonderful opportunity not long ago to speak at Career Day at Carver Elementary in Karnack, Texas. All of the students had wonderful questions. It was such a pleasure to speak to such outstanding students. Then yesterday, I had mail at my desk from Karnack. The students each drew a picture and wrote on it what he or she wants to be when they get older. It was a thank you card for speaking to them. It was truly my pleasure and we enjoyed our visit. Thank you to each one of those students for the wonderful card. I have a scrapbook that I started when I first got into news and that card will have a special page in my book. I hope everyone at Karnack ISD and Carver Elementary has a great summer!

By emoore | May 20, 2009

Quite often, you’ll see someone from Texas on a reality show. It’s bound to happen since we are such a large state. But for some reason, it seems as though people I know or have met in my life keep popping up on reality shows. It’s happened again with “The Bachelorette”. The guy you see here, Jake, is from my hometown. We went to the same high school. So best of luck to you Jake! You can catch “The Bachelorette” on KTBS Monday nights at 7:00 p.m.

The Texas Star year-round?
By emoore | May 19, 2009
If you’ve ever been to the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, you’ve either seen or riden the Texas Star. It’s the “Texas size” ferris wheel that has been a part of the State Fair for years. Well, now, according to the Texas Associated Press, it could be a ride that’s used year-round. A plan has been released that would add a roller coaster and other rides to the Midway at Fair Park that would make the area become a small amusement park. According to the Dallas Morning News, the expansion costs would be paid from profits of upcoming fairs and the small amusement park could be ready by 2012.

Term limits for Marshall City Commissioners
By emoore | May 18, 2009
Marshall resident Tom Allin has started a petition (which can be found at businesses throughout Marshall) to allow voters to decide if Marshall City Commissioners should have term limits. This issue was brought up during a city commission meeting in January. The proposal was for five terms and it was voted down by the city commissioners, four to three.
Do you think the city commissioners should be limited to the number of terms they serve or should it stay the same and commissioners can serve as long as they would like?
